“They are the loveliest skateboarders. Super nice people.”

The most popular scene in the islands

Of all the islands Mike Boisvert visited, the Dominican Republic is where skateboarding is the most popular, and the hospitality is what stayed with him. He was there in 2024, and his best memory is organizing a contest with Spiral Skateboarding, the crew and shop that is his key contact in Santo Domingo.

Where to skate

San Skate, a full transition park in Santo Domingo Este, is Mike's number one place to skate in the country. “Love that park.” Skatepark del Mirador in Santo Domingo is a brand new, Olympic-style park, and Cristo Park is the OG, the main spot.

Skaters to know

Adderly Roman (@adderlyroman03) is the best skater in Santo Domingo and Mike's number one pick. Mark Carrasco (@mark_carrasco) is a great dude, and Shamp D (@shamp_d), based between Santo Domingo and New York, is a ripper.

The crews and shops to follow are Spiral Skate and San Skate.

If you go

Take a tour of Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the Americas. Head to Bayahibe for the beach, and go surfing; at the surf spot, they even have a small skatepark.

The biggest barrier here is a lack of equipment. What would help, for Mike, is simple: a contest. And the most underrated thing about the country is the hospitality of the people. “I love them so much.”
