Street title holder : Interview with Jake Ilardi

Following an incredible season opener in Ventura earlier this month and the captivating performances from our athletes in last year's vert and street competitions, anticipation is building for our next stop in Virginia Beach. Get ready for a spectacular athlete lineup!

To prepare for what promises to be one of our biggest Festivals yet, we've compiled a list of the top athletes you absolutely must watch during the upcoming competitions. We took the opportunity to ask a few questions to some of the best athletes who will be at the Festival this year. Starting with the 2025 Open Street (Men) overall winner, Jake Ilardi:

Q&A with Jake Ilardi

Hey Jake, as the 2025 Virginia Beach Open Street Men's winner, what’s your game plan to run it back this year?

Same Strategy as last year. Stick to the plan.

How has skateboarding shaped your life?

My life revolves around skateboarding. Everything I do pretty much involves skating. But it's nice to take a step back and relax every once and awhile.

Has there been a particular moment that has marked your career?

I'd have to say placing 2nd at Tampa Pro 2019 before I was even a pro.

We all remember your absolutely incredible "bigspin front blunt backside flip out" from last year. Do you have a new trick in mind that you'd like to try this year that you could tell us about, or would you prefer to keep it a surprise?

I have a couple new tricks I'd like to try. It just depends on the conditions.

What song or style of music do you listen to to get motivated before dropping in?

I really like Larry June. Or old school rap is cool too.

After multiple podium finishes at Jackalope, who do you consider your main opponent or the toughest competition?

Micky Papa!

Which skateboarder's career inspire you the most?

Any skater that's an underdog in my opinion.

How's the skateboarding community like in your hometown?

The skate community in Sarasota is very tight knit. But it's growing! There's been multiple pros come out of SRQ before me including Jared Brantingham, Jimmy Lannon, and Kenny Stanley.

Who introduced you to skateboarding?

My grandma when I was 4 years old.

Do you have other talents outside of skateboarding you'd like to share?

I like to surf and bowl hahahahaha. I wouldn't call those talents though...
